Montana Association of Counties (MACo)
Cyndi Johnson was born in Broadus, MT and raised south of Broadus on a ranch on the Powder River.
Cyndi graduated from Powder River High School, Studied Science at MSU-Bozeman, Accounting at MSU- Billings, and received her certification in Long Term Care Administration from Presentation College, Aberdeen, SD.
Cyndi currently serves as Executive Director for Pondera Regional Port Authority, the economic development arm of local government. In addition to serving twelve years as a Pondera County Commissioner, she continues to farm with her husband Ken 23 miles east of Conrad. Prior to farming, Cyndi was a licensed Long Term Care Administrator for twenty years and worked in the long term care and Retirement housing industry.
Cyndi serves on the Golden Triangle Gymnastics Board of Directors. She also serves as President of the Conrad Swim Team, Secretary of the Pondera County Republican Central Committee, Montana State Secretary of the Republican Party, and Secretary-Treasurer of the Front Range Counties Farm Bureau. Cyndi has served as a Board Member of the Conrad Area Chamber of Commerce. Cyndi is a member of Golden West Lutheran Church, Golden Triangle Pachyderm, Montana Grain Growers, Friends of the NRA, and the Pondera Players.
In 1988, Cyndi had the distinction of being one of 81 Certified Retirement Housing Professionals in the nation. In 2005, she was the first Commissioner or elected official from the State of Montana to ever be chosen to attend the National County Leadership Institute. In 2007, Cyndi began representing the state of Montana on the National Association of Counties Board of Directors where she also currently served on the Audit Committee, Membership Committee, Rural Action Caucus, and the Community and Economic Development Steering Committee; and in 2011, she was chosen to serve as the President of the National Council of County Republican Officials. Cyndi served on the Montana Association of Counties Board of Directors from 2005-12 and was the President of MACo in 2007-08 and served that same organization as the elected Fiscal Officer from 2009-12. She has represented Pondera County on the Center for Mental Health Board of Directors since 2002 and currently serves as the Chairman of that Board. Cyndi also served as a Vice-Chair on the HRDC Board of Directors (Opportunities Inc.), and currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Sweet Grass Development Board of Directors and the Secretary of the Pondera Regional Port Authority.
Cyndi has been a coach in the Conrad Park and Rec Summer baseball program for 27 years and got involved with the Swim Team in the last 6 years. When she has a little spare time that isn’t deeply involved with kids, Cyndi enjoys working with wood, gardening, singing, acting with Pondera Players, camping, fishing, and shooting.
Cyndi is currently married to Ken Johnson and they have two daughters, Sheridan and Mariah.
